As an UX/UI Design inter, my job was redesigned the ForYouPage (NPO) website to make it more intuitive, clear, and user-friendly. The original site was cluttered and difficult to navigate, which limited engagement. Main focus area was get involved restructuring the overall site architecture, minimizing unnecessary content, and redesigning pages to maximize clarity and detail. The result was a streamlined platform that provides easy access to information for users before they get involved.

Problem Statement

UNCLEAR AND INACCESSIBLE MISSION

When I joined the team, there were no designers in place, so I had to carefully review every detail of the website to uncover pain points. The most critical issue I discovered was that the “What We Do” section was not easy to understand, which raised concerns about user involvement and engagement. For a nonprofit organization where donations are essential to sustaining operations, unclear communication of purpose directly impacts trust and participation. This is where my work began:

How might we restructure the website to make visitors quickly understand our mission and feel confident in getting involved?

From Clutter to Clarity

Listening to Users, Learning Their Needs

Connecting with involved members was challenged for us due to limited resources, inconsistent engagement, and challenges in personalizing communication. Nevertheless, I was able to reach out to active members through email to learn directly from their experiences. By asking about their pain points with the website, I gained valuable insights into the frustrations and obstacles they encountered, which shaped the foundation for my redesign decisions.

Process

Restructure Sitemap

The current ForYouPage website includes unnecessary content and several limited-access features, which has created confusion for visitors. Many users struggled to understand the organization’s mission and how to get involved.

Based on prior research, I decided to streamline the site by removing irrelevant or outdated content and focusing only on essential, up-to-date information. This redesign highlights clarity, accessibility, and relevance, ensuring that users can quickly grasp what ForYouPage stands for and find clear pathways to engagement.

Reflection

Learning from Real-World Constraints

Due to internal challenges, my final redesign was not launched publicly. While this outcome was initially disappointing, the experience gave me a valuable opportunity to work on a real-world project under practical constraints. The nonprofit’s limited resources often created roadblocks, but they also highlighted the importance of designing solutions that balance ambition with feasibility.

This project strengthened my ability to adapt to organizational realities while keeping user needs at the center. It also sparked my desire to take on larger-scale projects in future ones where I can combine thoughtful design with sufficient resources to bring meaningful impact to life.
